Our apprenticeships play a key role in our colleague development programmes and we’ve seen some of our colleagues progress from apprentice roles to become subject matter specialists, managers and directors.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our apprentices and reaffirm our commitment to investing in our people, creating opportunities for growth, and supporting long-term career development across our business.

Hosting the Craft Bakers Association in our Museum of Baking, Newcastle

In January, we hosted the Craft Bakers Association (CBA) Board Strategy meeting at our Museum of Baking in Newcastle.

The CBA is the UK’s leading trade association for craft bakers, dedicated to supporting and championing everyone in the baking industry.

Country Style have been long-standing members and supporters of the CBA and it was a pleasure to welcome the Board to Newcastle.

Greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets approved by SBTi

We are pleased to announce that our science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets have been officially validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

This validation confirms our commitment to climate action aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C, in line with the latest climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.

With our SBTi-approved targets now in place, we’re focused on implementation across all areas of our business.

We will continue to report on our progress annually and work with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders to achieve these ambitious goals.

British Frozen Food Awards 2025

The British Frozen Food Federation annual awards, held on Thursday 19th June at Royal Lancaster Hotel, celebrates quality and innovation of the best new products from across the frozen food sector over the past twelve months.

Congratulations to our desserts development team who won silver in the ‘Best New Dessert’ category for our Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Sustainable Wheat Initiative Manifesto

Country Style has signed the ‘Sustainable Wheat Initiative Manifesto’, together with millers, cooperatives, suppliers and other value chain partners. The official moment took place at a Symposium on 6 June with 200 participants in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Our MD, Joe Wood, took part in a CEO panel at the event.

The Manifesto records that we are committed to reduce CO2 emissions from our wheat and our flour production by 30% by 2030.

The shared ambition of everyone taking part is to accelerate the shift to low-carbon, sustainable agriculture.

We believe that achieving low carbon wheat and wheat flour will require careful planning and collaboration across the entire wheat value chain. Through this joint effort, we are taking a step towards improving the sustainability of the production system.

Britain’s Best Loaf 2025

Britain’s Best Loaf 2025 took place on Tuesday 8 April at the NEC Birmingham, as part of the UK Food & Drink Shows.

Congratulations to our product teams for winning two Gold Medals for the Yorkshire Loaf’s Spent Grain Sourdough Tin and Traditional Batch Loaf.

Baking Industry Awards 2023 – Best Specialty Bread

Congratulations to Martha and the Leeds NPD Team for winning Best Specialty Bread for the Yorkshire Loaf’s Red Rye & Ruby Beer Sourdough at the Baking Industry Awards 2023.

The Yorkshire Loaf was set up to as an initiative to quickly trial and gain qualitative insight on innovation concepts. We have now launched many products after testing and having access to real time customer insight.
